First Aid Basics
First Aid is administered immediately following an incident involving sickness or injury. It can be administered by a "non-expert" as a temporary measure while waiting on EMS personnel to respond. First Aid typically consists of a series of simple techniques that can stabilize the victim until more in-depth treatment can be applied.
Focus on the ABCs of vital elements of survival: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
Evaluate the airway to ensure that it is clear of obstruction.
Determine if RESCUE BREATHING is necessary.
If the victim is not breathing, engage in Hands Only CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) should be administered.
Other basic First Aid techniques include dealing with cuts, fractures, etc. by applying adhesive bandages, applying pressure, and cleaning.
